Seed libraries are growing phenomena. In 2010 there were only 7 seed libraries in North America, and as of 2014 (see map below) there are now approximately 291 – 27 of which are located in Canada.
Seed libraries function like regular libraries in that anyone can take out seeds. Library users are then asked to check some of the seeds back into the library at the end of the growing season. All seed libraries function a bit differently but they all generally emphasize bring open pollinated heirlooms back into the public domain.
The planing for a seed collection at the Concordia University is underway! This mobile library will be set up at different community events and campus locations throughout the year.
